What Is the Webasto Air Top Pro 25?
The Air Top Pro 25 is a fuel-fired air heater. It runs on the vehicle's own fuel, so you get heat without idling the engine or plugging into shore power. A small metering pump draws fuel from your vehicle's tank, so there is no separate fuel tank to fill.
Here is what is new:
- Wider power range. Normal running is about 2,400 to 7,000 BTU/h. Boost mode reaches 8,500 BTU/h (2.5 kW) and can hold it for up to 6 hours.
- Automatic altitude adjustment. No manual setting.
- Brushless motor. It runs very quietly at low output and is built to last longer.
- Plug-and-play wiring harnesses. These speed up the install and help prevent wiring mistakes.
- Three fuels. Diesel, gasoline and HVO, depending on the model.
- Built for continuous heating. It can run for long stretches, which matters for full-time living and winter work.
- Flexible mounting. It can go inside the vehicle or underfloor on the chassis.

Automatic Altitude Adjustment
This is the change we have waited for.
A heater burns fuel with air, and thin air changes that mix. At high elevation, a heater that is not adjusted can burn poorly, build up soot and struggle to start. The Air Top 2000 STC needed a manual altitude setting. That is doable for a pro, but it is one more thing an owner can forget when they drive from Salt Lake City up to a high camp in Colorado.
The Pro 25 handles it on its own. It delivers full output up to about 9,800 ft (3,000 m) and keeps running up to about 18,000 ft (5,500 m). Above 9,800 ft it runs at reduced output.
Espar's current heaters adjust automatically too, up to about 13,100 ft (4,000 m). So altitude is no longer a reason to choose one brand over the other. For nearly every camp, trailhead and mountain town in Utah and Colorado, both work with no setup.
A Simpler Install
Here is where the Pro 25 helps most.
One fewer hole. The fuel pump cable leaves through a slot in the combustion air fitting and runs down with the intake line. The pump wire does not need its own hole. A Pro 25 install needs a hole for the exhaust, a hole for combustion air and a tap into the fuel tank. By comparison, Espar's pump cable needs its own 10.5 mm hole that is not part of its standard drilling pattern. Every hole through a floor or body panel is something to seal and protect from rust, so fewer is better.
A drop-in for the Air Top 2000 STC. The Pro 25 uses the same footplate and air openings. If you already have a 2000 STC in your van or RV, the new heater fits the same spot. The wiring and controller are new, so you use the harness and controller that come in the kit.
Cleaner wiring. The new harnesses use an 8-pin plug. Plug-and-play connections mean fewer splices, and fewer splices mean fewer problems down the road.
Mounting choices. Inside the vehicle or underfloor on the chassis. Underfloor mounting can free up storage space in a van or cabinet. We pick the spot based on your layout, your vehicle and how you use it.
More Range at Both Ends
The Pro 25 runs from 0.7 to 2.5 kW. The low end lets the heater idle gently once the cabin is warm, which saves fuel and cuts noise. The high end warms a cold van faster. Boost mode is there for the first cold hour of a winter morning.
Is It Right for Your Vehicle?
The Pro 25 tops out at 2.5 kW. That is plenty for most camper vans and smaller motorhomes. Webasto designed it for camper vans up to about 8 meters (26 ft).
If you need more heat, such as a long motorhome, a poorly insulated cargo box or a large work space, a bigger heater is the better pick. Both Webasto and Espar make them, including the Webasto Air Top Evo and Espar's 4 kW models. We carry and install both brands, and we will help you choose the right one for your vehicle.
Choose Your Kit
We match the heater to the vehicle's fuel. A gasoline heater in a diesel vehicle (or the reverse) is possible, but it adds complexity and more parts that can fail. So we use diesel kits for diesel vehicles and gasoline kits for gas vehicles. That includes most Transit and ProMaster vans and gas Class C motorhomes.
All four kits are 12V and include everything for the install:
- The heater and controller.
- Fuel pump, fuel line and a heavy-duty fuel tank standpipe.
- Heater and fuel pump wire harnesses and a base seal.
- Stainless steel exhaust tubing, combustion air tubing.
- All kits include cabin air ducting except the Gasoline Rheostat Dial kit.
| Kit | Fuel | Controller | Pre-order price | List price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5014433A | Diesel | Rheostat dial | $1,593.75 | $1,875.00 |
| 5014494A | Diesel | SmarTemp 3.0 | $1,636.25 | $1,925.00 |
| 5014436A | Gasoline | Rheostat dial | $1,674.50 | $1,970.00 |
| 5014495A | Gasoline | SmarTemp 3.0 | $1,717.00 | $2,020.00 |
Rheostat. A simple rotary dial with an LED status light. You set the heat and walk away. It mounts in the dash, which needs a small hole drilled in the dash panel.
SmarTemp 3.0. A digital controller with Bluetooth. It connects to the SmarTemp app on your phone, so you can change settings, check diagnostics and run programmed schedules. It can also manage more than one heater.
If you want it simple, choose the rheostat. If you want more control, choose the SmarTemp 3.0.
Not Just for Vans
Fuel-fired heaters fit well beyond van life.
- Ski vans. A winter-ready heater is the heart of a ski van. See our ski van upgrades.
- Work vehicles and fleets. Heat keeps tools, materials and equipment from freezing overnight. See our freeze prevention solutions for commercial vehicles and our other commercial vehicle upfits.
- Off-grid RVs. A fuel-fired heater runs on the vehicle's fuel, so it pairs well with a good power system. Look at our complete RV power systems, our lithium battery upgrades and our guide to the basics of RV solar.
- Heating and cooling. In summer, quiet cooling matters just as much. Read about high-efficiency RV air conditioners, whether a mini split or rooftop A/C is the better choice, and how to build quiet off-grid comfort.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Air Top Pro 25 work at high altitude?
Yes. It adjusts automatically with no manual setup. It gives full output up to about 9,800 ft and keeps running up to about 18,000 ft.
Can the Pro 25 replace my Air Top 2000 STC?
Yes, in most cases. It uses the same footplate and air openings. The wiring and controller are new, so you use the harness and controller from the kit. We check each vehicle before we confirm.
What Fuels Does It Use?
Diesel, gasoline and HVO, depending on the model. Match the heater to your vehicle's fuel. Our four kits cover 12V diesel and 12V gasoline.
Does It Use the Vehicle's Fuel Tank?
Yes. It draws a small amount of fuel from your vehicle's tank through a metering pump. There is no separate fuel tank to fill.
Should I Choose Webasto or Espar?
Both make good heaters, and both now adjust for altitude automatically. We now lean Webasto for most van and RV installs because of the simpler install. For spaces that need more than 2.5 kW, a bigger heater from either brand may fit better. We carry both and will help you choose.
Can I Install It Myself?
Webasto says its heaters should be installed by trained people, and we agree. Exhaust routing, fuel supply and combustion air all need to be done right. That is what we do every day.
The Bottom Line
The Air Top Pro 25 adjusts for altitude on its own. It has a wider power range, cleaner wiring and one fewer hole to cut. For most van, RV and work vehicle installs, it is a smart upgrade.
